Mise-en-scene?

For our movie trailer we have to apply a Mise-en-scene that will appeal to our target audience. Mise-en-scene is broken down in to C-L-A-M-P-S.

Costume – Causal modern clothes for characters, quite scruffy looking as they do not have time to make themselves presentable. James will wear a black jacket, white shirt/top and jeans as this conforms to the codes and conventions of modern horror films. (Picture of Will Smith). Anna will wear a pink tracksuit as this keeps an element of femininity and identifying her as still being in touch with her stereotypical archetype. Jonah will be wearing patterned jumpers and shirts as this helps identify his character to be the geek of the group.

Lighting – The use of night and day throughout the trailer will help generate the progression of time passing. The misty mornings with the birds flying past will help provide the audience with the sense of isolation. The use of a dark house will create a sinister Mise-en-scene. The use of dawn will show that the end is upon the three survivors.

Make-up/Motif – Dirty faces on main character and others to show that there are no more facilities were you can wash and shows that civilisation has crumbled. The bloody face of the zombie helps show that it is a fast moving zombie and that life’s have ended.

Props – A normal everyday car, that is popular within the age group of the characters, is put in an odd situation helps show that it is real and subverts the rest of the Mise-en-scene. The use of every day household items which are used as weapons shows the panic of survival and shows the audience they are fighting for their lives.

Set/Setting – A misty lake will be used as you cannot see across help provide tension for the audience. The use of an empty tower block and Bluewater Park shopping centre shows juxta position as there are supposed to be loads of people there but there isn’t. Woods will be used as this is an iconic location for this genre and helps build tension within the trailer.

Do we have your permission?

As we would like to use the font 'Scorched Earth' as our main font style, I have emailed the creator of this font style as it has been copy righted. Below shows the following email of which I sent to him asking him for his permission if we were allowed to use the font style or not.

This is the email of which I sent to him:

The pitch has to be delivered!

The pitch has now arrived of which we pitch our idea of the movie trailer to our teachers who will give us the go ahead if they feel it is achievable. We will pitch all our ideas such as font style, storyboard, ancillary drafts, location shots, synopsis, choice of characters, and our vision for the trailer. This is how the pitch went:

What was the response from the pitch?

We have successfully passed the pitch stage and our ideas were appreciated. We were all told that the storyline was good and we need to develop upon our production schedule and storyboard. We have been given the go ahead and we received some good and positive feedback from teachers and peers. We just need to have another meeting to finalise our production schedule and think of the type of shots we will include within the film trailer and then we can start to film. Let the journey begin…

More ideas?

For our Ancillary task I have been tasked to create a film magzine front cover of which advertises Apocalypse. I have undergone some research which will enable me to produce a professional front cover that will support our teaser trailer.
I have now completed three designs of a film magazine front cover of which I am going to pick the one I feel will help advertise the film, conform with the codes and conventions, and the one that the target audience feels is more effective. Below are the three draft verions of the front cover of the movie magazine front cover:

How do I create a professional magazine front cover?

For our Ancillary task I have been tasked to create a film magzine front cover of which advertises Apocalypse. I have undergone some research which will enable me to produce a professional front cover that will support our teaser trailer.
I have looked at some existing film magazine front covers of which match our genre and analysed the codes and conventions of which I can incorporate into my poster.
